    level 1 ASP list

The people and businesses responsible for ensuring NSW’s electricity distribution are called Accredited Service Providers (ASPs). There are different ASP levels that determine the roles you can perform. For example, a Level 1 ASP worker can perform duties associated with the construction of network assets. Level 2 ASPs can perform connections and disconnections to the network. The level you attain depends on the training you’ve completed. If you obtain the correct qualifications, you can be on the Level 1 ASP list.

What jobs can a Level 1 ASP do?

Although getting on the Level 1 ASP list opens up a career pathway, there are still restrictions on the work you can perform. Firstly, your role is generally limited to constructing and maintaining network assets. This means you don’t perform jobs such as metering, connections, disconnections or service upgrades.

You also won’t do any customer work, as this is mostly done by level 2 ASPs. The other major difference is you won’t perform work with live assets. Level 1 ESI workers typically only work on de-energised parts of the network.

How to get on the Level 1 ASP list

If you want to start your career in the electrical supply industry, here is how you can do it.

    Training

Training is essential for becoming an ESI worker. Experienced and qualified electricians may be able to apply for recognition of prior learning to obtain ASP registration. However, those without the qualifications need to start from scratch. Completing an ASP level 1 Pathways course is the best option. This gives you the electrical knowledge to get your career started and the safety training you need.

You’ll also need to do mandatory ASP refresher training each year. If you’re in a remote area, look out for our mobile training unit coming to a town near you.

    Registration

Once qualified, you must apply in writing to be registered as an Accredited Service Provider (ASP). You’ll do this through the NSW Department of Trade and Investment. You must provide evidence of your competency, pay an application fee and show that you have appropriate insurance. You’ll also need to be accredited by one of the three electricity distributors: Ausgrid, Essential or Endeavour.

Essentially, this step is to ensure you have completed the appropriate safety training and any other internal training required to work in the ESI. With these steps completed, you’re ready to start work.

Want to get on the Level 1 ASP list?

IAC Safety Services provides all the necessary training to become an ESI worker. As a Level 1 ASP, you can play a key role in the delivery of electricity to homes and businesses throughout NSW. Whether you’ve got previous electrical qualifications or not, we can guide you through the process of becoming accredited to work in the ESI. We also provide mandatory ASP refresher training that must be completed each year to maintain your ASP registration.
