    level 1 ASP list

In the energy distribution network, there are multiple skilled professionals who keep things running smoothly. From non-electrical workers assisting with the construction of network assets to Level 2 ASPs who perform meter installations, everybody plays a role in keeping the lights on. One of these crucial workers is a Level 1 electrician. Typically, they work on constructing overhead and underground power lines and other network infrastructure. The role is quite varied and requires specialist training in order to become accredited. Here is everything you can learn during Level 1 ASP training.

Class divisions within ASP Level 1

Before diving into the specifics of ASP Level 1 training, it’s important to identify the different class qualifications. Accredited Service Providers (ASPs) are classed according to the services they offer, and as such, individuals employed by these companies must attain specific levels of accreditation across these four classes:

    • 1A: Focuses on work near overhead electricity networks such as pole erection and tower construction.
    • 1B: Covers work on the underground electricity network, including tasks like cable trench excavation and cable pit construction.
    • 1C: Similar to Class 1B, but excludes work on paper lead of CONSAC cables.
    • 1X: Tailored for non-electrically qualified personnel, enabling them to register with the ASP Scheme.

So, your training requirements vary depending on the class level of qualification you wish to obtain. Let’s take a look at some of the core units you’ll study across different qualification levels.

UET30612 – Certificate III in ESI – Power Systems – Distribution Overhead

Applicable to Class 1A, the UET30612 qualification gives participants the skills to safely and efficiently conduct distribution overhead work, such as stringing and tensioning conductors and erecting poles and towers. This unit is also applicable to Class 1C.

UET30812 – Certificate III in ESI – Power Systems – Distribution Cable Jointing

The UET30812 qualification, relevant for Class 1B and 1C, offers learners comprehensive knowledge about the construction and maintenance of underground electricity networks, including duct laying and cable jointing. Depending on your Class, you’ll also need to complete mandatory units for installing and testing certain cable types.

UET30811 – Certificate III in Electrotechnology

The UET30811 qualification applies to Class 1C and provides the knowledge and skills to safely work with electrical systems and equipment, including installation, testing, and maintenance.

The importance of safety in Level 1 ASP training

The energy distribution network (and any type of electrical work) comes with an element of risk. You can mitigate these risks, of course, by following strict health and safety guidelines. Due to the industry’s significant health and safety regulations, Level 1 ASP training always features a safety component. This will include understanding safety procedures, using safety equipment and other skills allowing you to perform your job safely and efficiently.
