    UETDREL006

The UETDREL006 course is designed to give non-electrical workers the skills and knowledge to perform their jobs safely and effectively around live electrical apparatus. For ESI workers in NSW who do not possess electrical qualifications, this training is essential. With safety being the primary concern in high-risk environments, UETDREL006 could quite literally be a life saver. Here’s everything you need to know about the training required to work near live electrical assets without electrical qualifications.

Why is safety around live electrical apparatus so important?

Safety around live electrical apparatus is not something that can be taken lightly, particularly for non-electrical workers. Working close to live powerlines or electrical equipment comes with several risks including electrocution, falls, and equipment failure. Without the proper safety training, non-electrical workers may unintentionally put themselves or others at risk.

While this point is always secondary to people’s safety, the fact is that there are significant fines and penalties for breaching Work Health and Safety Laws. Considering the potential for worker’s compensation claims or other legal action, it’s in a company’s financial interests to ensure safety training for everybody.

Core competencies covered in the training

The UETDREL006 course covers a comprehensive range of skills that are crucial for working safely around network assets. Participants will learn essential safety procedures, how to identify low-voltage circuits, and other practical knowledge that can help to prevent accidents.

Identifying hazards and risk mitigation are big parts of the course, and you’ll also learn emergency procedures that could save a person’s life. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements and maintaining the minimum clearance distance around powerlines are also part of the training.

    Who should undertake this course?

This course is suited to all non-electrical workers who may work in the vicinity of live electrical assets. Some examples include crane operators, spotters and observers, construction workers, tree trimmers and many more.

If you want to work in the NSW Electricity Supply and Distribution Network (ESDN) as an accredited service provider, it’s mandatory to receive the appropriate safety training. Without it, you can’t register as an ASP, and any company that hires you could face significant fines. Practically every person involved in maintaining the electrical supply network who doesn’t have prior electrical qualifications can benefit from UETDREL006 training.

    Ongoing safety education and certification

While the UETDREL006 certification is crucial for non-electrical workers, maintaining knowledge is equally important. As regulations and safety practices often change, ESI workers should take regular refresher training to keep their skills and knowledge up to date.

For those who want to maintain their status as an Accredited Service Provider, annual ASP Refresher training is mandatory.
