Safety training for workers is extremely common in the modern age, as government regulations continue to place stricter controls over safety standards in workplaces. This is to ensure everybody has the right to come home uninjured from a day at work. For workers involved in high-risk environments near live electrical networks, specialised safety training keeps people safe and also ensures employers meet regulatory requirements. In this article, we’ll explore some of the best safety training courses in Sydney.

    Accredited Service Provider (ASP) pathways

If you want to work in the NSW electrical supply industry (ESI), you need to complete appropriate Accredited Service Provider (ASP) pathway training. IAC Safety Services offers two critical ASP pathways: ASP Level 1 and ASP Level 2. ASP Level 1 is tailored for professionals involved in constructing and maintaining overhead and underground powerlines, covering critical safety procedures and techniques for high-voltage work. ASP Level 2 focuses on customer-centric tasks. This may be connecting or disconnecting properties from the network, performing meter installations, and conducting repairs.

Both of these pathways are mandatory for electricians working on NSW’s electrical supply network. You can’t work for one of the three distributors without these credentials.

ASP refresher courses for maintaining accreditation

In NSW, it’s mandatory to complete ASP Refresher training every year. This is essentially a refresher on the safety components of previous training, and ensures you’ve got the most recent information. Laws regulations and standards often change, which is why refresher courses are so important.

They’re also mandatory because they can help you save a life. You’ll refresh your skills in low voltage rescue, pole-top rescue and other critical safety skills. If that’s not enough to encourage you, this training is mandatory to maintain accreditation as an ASP.

Courses for non-electrical workers near live electrical infrastructure

Safety training is equally important for non-electrical workers who operate near live electrical systems. IAC’s UETDREL006 overhead powerlines training course is designed to teach non-electrical professionals how to work safely near live electrical apparatus, making it ideal for crane operators, arborists, construction teams, and others who often work in close proximity to powerlines. This course covers key safety protocols, distance requirements, and emergency response skills.

So, even if you’re not an electrician or electrical professional working in the ESI, you still need to have the basic safety skills and knowledge to ensure a safe workplace for everyone.
