Course Overview

This course provides the skills and knowledge required for installing smart meters and whole current electricity meters in residential and light commercial environments. It is designed for licensed electricians and Authorised Service Providers (ASPs) who need to carry out compliant metering installations, upgrades and replacements in line with current industry standards.

Participants will develop practical, hands-on skills in installing smart meters, including safe isolation, meter installation, wiring and connections, configuration, and commissioning. The course also covers testing and verification procedures to ensure accurate meter operation, along with completing all required compliance documentation. A strong focus is placed on working safely, identifying hazards, and complying with Australian Standards, service and installation rules, and network requirements.

Pre-requisites:

  • UEEEL0039 – Design, install and verify compliance and functionality of general electrical installations
  • UETDRRF004 – Perform rescue from a live LV panel

Duration:

  • 2–3 days (including training and assessment)

Delivery & Assessment:

Training is delivered through a combination of theory and practical, hands-on activities in a simulated or workplace environment. Assessment includes practical demonstration of installing smart meters, written knowledge assessment, and completion of required documentation.

Outcome:

On successful completion, participants will be awarded the nationally recognised unit UEEEL0078 – Install and Commission Whole Current Electricity Meters. Graduates will have the skills to confidently carry out installing smart meters and whole current metering systems safely, accurately, and in compliance with industry and regulatory requirements.
