    level 2 electrician in Sydney

If you’d like to work for one of the three electricity distributors in NSW, you’ll need to be registered as an Accredited Service Provider (ASP). Level 2 ASPs can perform connections and disconnections, amongst other duties involved with maintaining the electrical supply network. So, if you’d like to become a Level 2 electrician in Sydney, there are a few steps you’ll need to follow.

In this article, we’ll discuss registration to work in the network, the necessary training, and how to find your next job.

    Register with the ASP Scheme

The NSW Department of Planning and Environment operates the Accredited Service Provider (ASP) Scheme for those wishing to perform contestable works in the NSW electricity supply and distribution network. The scheme ensures that only qualified and safety-trained individuals maintain one of the state’s largest assets.

To register with the ASP scheme, you must complete mandatory training to prove your competency. Then, you must apply in writing to the NSW Dept of Planning and Environment, seeking accreditation as an ASP. You’ll also need to be authorised by one of the three electricity distributors, namely Ausgrid, Essential Energy and Endeavour Energy.

Training to become a level 2 electrician in Sydney

To prove your competency to perform the duties required of a Level 2 electrician, you’ll need to undertake a certain level of electrical training. This can be done through IAC Safety Services, and will include different training units depending on your prior training. For example, licensed electricians may only need to complete a few compulsory units to meet competency.

The ASP Level 2 Pathways training is available to anybody, and it’s the perfect way to set yourself up for a career in the electrical supply industry (ESI). If you’d like to learn more about the Level 2 electrician course price, our article here will be of interest.

    Find job vacancies

There are multiple ways you can find job vacancies in the NSW electrical supply industry (ESI). One of the more popular ways is to enrol with electrical employment agencies in Sydney. These specialist agencies have links to the ESI and often have vacancies available. Alternatively, you can monitor the other online job boards for opportunities.

It’s worth a reminder that you need an endorsement from Ausgrid, Endeavour Energy or Essential Energy to gain ASP accreditation. So, typically, you will already have a job lined up when you start your training.
